Wally’s Story-A Lost Dog Found After 5 Weeks

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Many of you may know, I donate my services to many Non-Profit Animal Rescue Groups all over the US.

In late October, I was contacted by Cindy from Rescue Our Furry Friends or ROFF.

Cindy said they desperately needed my help to find a 2 year old lab named Wally.  Wally was an owner surrender who came to ROFF in an effort to find him his new forever home.

Here is Wally when he came to ROFF.

After only a couple days, Wally’s new foster mom took him outside and he slipped out of his harness and disappeared.  After searching the area day and night for four days, Cindy and the ROFF volunteers were devastated when they could not find him.

In desperation they contacted another Animal Communicator.  Apparently this other Communicator made contact with Wally but was unable to provide any details about where he was. Finding a lost animal is extremely difficult and takes a tremendous amount of energy.

Cindy kept searching the Internet until she found my website and contacted me.

Cindy explained that they had even hired a scent tracking dog but they got no new leads.

After reviewing his case and photo I felt I could get enough information to help Cindy and the ROFF volunteers find Wally.

Here is Wally’s story from Cindy:

We took Wally in from the local humane society as an owner surrender due to divorce.  We knew immediately this poor boy was afraid of all humans and we knew it was going to be a task to get him to trust again.  We only had him in rescue for two days when his foster mother called and said Wally was missing.

She took him outside and he slipped his collar and was gone!  We searched day and night, we contacted all of the local vets in case someone brought in a hit by car, we posted fliers on every telephone pole, we contacted all the local radio stations begging the people in this neighborhood to please check around their porches and garages, then we set a humane live trap.

After a few days and no sightings I brought in a tracking dog.  We were not successful with this.  So at this point I was out of options, or so I thought.  I got on line looking for a Pet communicator, it was my last resort.  We found Karen Anderson who worked diligently to help us find our boy.

Wally was terrified of humans and trusted no one. Karen was giving us locations and land marks to look for, she was also letting us know he was still alive.  We then got our first sighting on him in a field about 2 miles from where he went missing.  We set the live trap and a game camera.  The next morning I went out to check the trap and there was a yellow lab in it.  I wasn’t getting too excited because I thought I trapped someones dog.  Wally has a scar under his left eye.  I walked up to the trap and saw a scar under the left eye…it was Wally!

Wally was missing for 5 1/2 weeks.  I was desperate to get him out of the field with hunting season and the cold weather upon us.  Other than testing positive for Lyme disease removing ticks, Wally was in pretty good shape.  I am fostering Wally at home with my four other labs and Wally loves them all.  I am working with my trainers to help Wally to  learn to trust people and he is coming slowly out of his shell.  The other night he crawled in bed me and two other labs to watch television.  His photo is below.

All the details Karen gave us fit to a “T” including where we found him after 5 1/2 weeks.  Thank you Karen so much for bringing our boy back to us.

Thank you,

Cindy McClellan

A Light Left On For A Lost Cat

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

In a recent session a cat named Blue told me to mention a light on in the house.  I was trying to focus on his location and for some reason Blue kept referencing a light being left on.

lamp on

I finally asked his dad, William if that meant anything to him.  His response came with total disbelief…

“My young son has been devastated since Blue disappeared so I told him we would leave the light on in the house until Blue came home,” he said slowly, ” I can’t believe Blue knows that.”

I continued to describe Blue’s location and direction of travel.

“Blue told me he went out the front of the house and turned to the left.  There is a park-like area with an odd shape, it looks like the trees are in a perfect row, planted by humans not wild growth.” Blue was near some kind of field or open area.

William recognized this area immediately:

“That is an exact description of our area. The park you described is a reserve to the left of our door.  The trees planted in a row refer to an area just outside that area that is a creek restoration area.”

With that description the family headed out in search of Blue.  The next day I received this message:

“Blue’s back!!!… he was down the road.. to the left.. and had been in the park area you described.  A an old lady had been feeding him.. and he kept returning to her house. She saw a sign we put up… so cool.. thank you for your help.. you gave us all hope.”

Help With Lost Animals

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

It breaks my heart when I receive a frantic call for a lost animal.

I little bit of preparation goes a long way when an animal friend disappears.

I have a ‘Lost Animal’ section on my website under “FAQ”.  It provides some helpful hints to help you with your search.

I’d like to cover a few things that come up frequently with lost animal calls.

Lost animals will send many images.  These are all clues that can be used to help locate them.  They can show me their surroundings, describe the person who has them, or even show me the direction they traveled.  It’s like putting the pieces of a puzzle together.  It takes time, energy and lots of footwork.

Some animals will go off by themselves it is their time to pass into the spirit world.  This is quite common in the animal kingdom.  If your animal is sick or old this could be the reason why they left.

To help with your search have a recent photo with a good head shot and body shot of your friend.

Fliers have brought more animals home than you would imagine.  Hang them where it is allowed, be sure to check city zoning laws before you post on utility poles, etc.

Mail them to area veterinarians, groomers or animal related services in your area.

Make them full color.  Laminate them for weather.

Offer a reward but don’t say how much the reward is.

Have proper ID on your animals, current info, name, phone, address

Place ads in local papers.

Check local shelters regularly, most hold new animals for only a few days before they are destroyed

Never go alone if someone says they have your animal.  Be safe, take someone with you and always leave the address/phone/name etc of where you are going with another person.

Canvas the main area where your animal was lost as soon as possible.

Talk to as many people as you can.

Children are great resources as they pay attention to animals.

Postal carriers are great resources, they know every animal on their route

Dogs travel great distances in a short amount of time.

Cats stay close to home, rarely more than a few blocks from where they were last seen.

Cats usually hide, look everywhere even in tiny, dark places.

Dawn and dusk are when lost animals tend to be most active.  Try to look during those times, calling their name.

A very scared lost animal may be reluctant to come to you even if they hear you calling.

When you call to them, try to bang a food bowl, or clank canned food with a fork.  A hungry animal will hear that from far away.

When you call to them, picture them coming back to where you want to find them, for example, if you lost them from home, picture them returning home.

But, if you lost them at a park, at another location, picture them coming back to that location.  Put a scented article of clothing at the location so they know you have been there.

Be persistent.  This can be very frustrating.  Scheduling a session can bring about many clues to their whereabouts.

A lost animal is scared, confused, hungry and tired.  Most cats can provide for themselves and find food sources with ease.

The survival instinct kicks in pretty fast with cats.  They can become very skittish, hiding and laying low.

Dogs can bite out of fear so be very careful if you are trying to rescue a lost dog.

Most of all, try to remain calm.  Your nervous, anxious energy is going out into the Universe.  They will pick up on your energy but it will be so confusing they won’t know what it means.

Send clear, vivid images to them.  Tell them in your mind you are looking for them and to stay safe.

I have many clients whose cats have been found after 3 months, 9 months or even a year later.

Dogs have been missing for 1 week, 7 weeks, 3 months or more.

It takes time and effort.  Be willing to do a lot of legwork.

If you are unable to find your lost animal, know that there is usually a higher purpose for their disappearance.  Do not place blame or guilt on yourself.  Celebrate the time you shared with them and have the courage to move forward.
